Emergia
Emergia was a student collective that creates social intervention methodologies to improve the quality of life in emerging settlements. We seek to make citizens aware of this growing phenomenon and modify the dynamics of citizen participation to build more inclusive and livable cities.

This program was an edition of Playlab, a social innovation lab that brings together groups of interdisciplinary students to generate solutions to social conflicts in local communities for five months. The curriculum is comprised of research and prototyping in an urban or rural settlement that combines fieldwork with a theoretical framework.

The 2019 edition focused on the community of San José el Alto, an irregular settlement built no more than 20 years ago by groups of immigrants, and which day by day face the characteristic paradigms of the emerging city.

Outcomes:
• Community engagement workshops and interviews
• An ethnographic and urban research report
• An urban intervention to transform an abandoned lot into public space
• A documentary film about the stories of members of this community.
